willie's swatches and plans

For my part of the final presentation, I am presenting four dresses, all of which I am making the fabric for. Each will be composed and attached in a different way. One will be made of entirely thread and held together with only thread, one will be composed of woven strips of cotton jersey, another will be melted fibers and the last will be made of patched and melted "stitches." All will be in generally the same shape with a very tight, dense upper that almost almost conceals what the fabric really is with a gradual fade down the skirt of the dress that is looser and shows off the composition of the fabric moreso than on top. They will all be sleeveless and for each there is no real seams.... or infinite seams.

Each will be presented on the same size form that will be made from making a duct tape cast of the forms each dress was built on. The form will be cut just so that it acts as a form to support the dress and the actual form beneath the dress will not be seen. Ideally they will be hanging from the ceiling with a thick rope coming from the center of the dress.

TWO PLAYFUL PINK
(1 OF 3 PARTS)
YASMEEN GODDER
2003

"Two women. Three scenes. One evening, in which they respond to the constant gaze that inspects them. Being looked at, examined, and living up to the expectation, where the body operates as a social tool, they develop a relationship between them. Inspired by surreal imagery and pop energy, the three different sections present different aspects of the female body and being, ultimately exposing a refreshing language: mysterious, funny and disturbing all at once"
